SeaForge Aviation

SeaForge Aviation is the Republic's specialist carrier-aircraft house. Established from naval aviation workshops in 1904, it designs aircraft and modifications around catapult launch, arrested recovery, corrosion, folded geometry, deck handling and the limited maintenance space of a ship. Its dated programmes and facilities are controlled by Aviation Manufacturing and Systems; completed aircraft are recorded in Aircraft of the Republic.

Programmes

SeaForge leads the NF-53 Sea Dart II multirole fighter and remains design authority and support prime for the NS-44 Cutlass. It works with Valence on the NF-53 air vehicle and flight controls, supports SkyNet on the NE-49 RavenEye naval electronic-warfare aircraft, and supplies naval integration to training and special-mission programmes.

The division of responsibility is contractual as well as technical. SeaForge controls carrier suitability, folding geometry, launch and recovery loads, corrosion protection and shipboard maintenance instructions. Partner firms retain authority over their engines, sensors or defined airframe systems. A proposed change is not accepted until every affected authority has approved its interfaces.

Facilities and supply chain

Seaward contains the design office, carrier-suitability rigs and final assembly for fast jets. Calderport performs corrosion testing, folding-wing manufacture, repair and maritime conversion. Full-scale deck handling is rehearsed on marked concrete areas before aircraft and support equipment are committed to a carrier trial.

SkyThrust provides the STX-51 engine used by the NF-53; OmniTech, SecureWing, SkyNet and Stratolink supply radar, cockpit, defensive and communications systems. Landing gear, hooks, wing-fold actuators and salt-resistant electrical connectors are controlled long-lead items. Many come from medium firms that also serve shipbuilding or heavy machinery, but aviation batches require separate materials and inspection records.

Carrier aircraft are expensive in small ways as well as obvious ones. Hinges, access panels, wiring runs, coatings, tie-down points and support tools must survive salt, deck shock and repeated handling. A common land-based component is used only when its qualification covers the naval environment; visual similarity is insufficient.

Production is consequently lower-volume and more inspection-heavy than ordinary tactical-aircraft work. SeaForge remains viable through fleet support, structural-life monitoring, depot repair and periodic upgrades between new-build lots. It keeps older tooling under controlled storage because reopening a naval line without jigs, gauges and process records would take years.

Industrial culture

SeaForge design reviews include pilots, deck handlers, armourers and maintainers. Engineers regularly embark during trials and early deployments. This does not eliminate poor decisions, but it gives practical shipboard evidence formal standing. The company's aircraft are judged less by showroom finish than by whether they can be moved, armed, washed, inspected and returned to the flying programme in confined conditions.
