Casterford Product Recall

Date: 18–26 January 2025
Place: Casterne grain and food-processing district

A batch of Green Table school and workplace meal sauce was recalled after a contamination test. The Harper farm household was not the producer but lost a supply contract while buyers checked the wider co-operative. Schools changed menus, the hospital separated meals for vulnerable patients and households exchanged photographs of batch numbers in family chats. Some parents wanted every product withdrawn; farm and factory workers argued that the defect was local and the wider label should survive.

The food regulator, Casterford market authority and co-operative issued different early notices. Retailers absorbed returns and disposal costs; farms faced delayed payments; families bought substitutes at higher prices. Local media followed the testing chain more closely than national television. Supply returned after nine days with new batch tracing and a public kitchen audit.

The lasting canon is an expanded co-operative traceability rule and school notice protocol. Green Table remains a recognised brand; no national food-production baseline changes.

Political costs and opposition

The recall altered trust through meals rather than speeches. Bell Harper became more willing to discuss traceability publicly, while Ishaan feared that urban buyers treated every farm as suspect. The dispute linked food safety to class, rural dignity and household thrift.
