This is the canonical hull history for the Ward and Syndicate naval tradition from 1800 to 2026. It records commissioned combatants, submarines, patrol, mine, amphibious and major auxiliary vessels. Aircraft and uncommissioned harbour launches are outside the registry.

The registry contains 1,774 individual hulls in 67 classes.

Every equipment designation in this source resolves to Naval Shipbuilding and Systems. A class allowance records item types and quantities; individual serial numbers are not treated as separate models.

Prefixes and registry practice

WIS means Ward Imperial Ship and SNS means Syndicate Naval Ship. Surviving vessels changed prefix in 1943; regime-directed renamings are retained as part of each hull's continuous record. Pennants shown for vessels before 1890 are retrospective archival identifiers and were not necessarily painted or spoken aboard. Purchased, captured, converted and transferred vessels appear once, under the service that maintained the final continuous record.

Pennants are class-and-era allocations rather than globally unique hull identifiers. The same alphabetic category and number could be reissued after an earlier allocation closed, and retrospective codes sometimes preserve an archival category broader than the vessel's later technical type. A hull is therefore identified unambiguously by prefix, name, class and service dates together. Standard machinery economy, water discipline, noise, smells and crew routines are described at class level; an individual hull note records only a documented deviation, refit, incident, transfer or disposal.
