Selgate is a Cordainian border capital, irrigation centre and logistics town whose population changes with trade and seasonal work.

Twenty-six per cent of residents use a southern allied language at home. Seventy-eight wards elect 156 councillors: Civic 64, Development 39, Labour 27, Rights 13 and others 13. Federal first preferences were Civic 34%, Development 24%, Labour 19%, Reform 10%, Rights 7% and others 6%.

The workforce is 2.83 million and unemployment 4.2%. Border and customs services employ 102,000, logistics 184,000, irrigation and food 97,000 and vehicle servicing 81,000. Median full-time pay is R$48,400 and household disposable income R$79,200. Rent is R$1,320, home price R$380,000, energy R$2,880 and monthly transport R$230.

Revenue is R$42.6bn, expenditure R$43.1bn, debt R$49bn and backlog R$28bn. Selgate has 7,100 school sites, 82 hospitals or large clinics and bus rapid transit linked to cross-border rail. Road and rail freight total 790 million tonnes a year. Dust, vehicle emissions and irrigation salinity are the main environmental burdens.
